How to find a users ID and other information on Facebook

While wandering around through the center of Facebook Developer’s site we found a little trick that many have had not noticed. Some basic information of each user are readily available to all (even by those not on Facebook) by visiting a simple URL.

The URL of which I speak is the open graph of the Facebook API:http://graph.facebook.com/

Just enter after the slash / the username or ID of the object (which is this profile, a page, group, or an application) to discover some basic information.

Suppose you want to try this trick with Mark Zuckerberg’s account, we just look for his name on Facebook to find out that his user name is Zuck. Then we visithttp://graph.facebook.com/zuck and obtain this information:

“Id”: “4? – This is the ID of the user (we had already revealed 5 ways to find it, but this new method is much faster and easier)
“Name”: “Mark Zuckerberg” – Full name
“first_name”: “Mark” – Name
“Last_name”: “Zuckerberg” – Surname (in case he also set a nickname there would be another field called “middle_name”
“Link”: http://www.facebook.com/zuck, – The link to his profile on Facebook
“Username”: “Zuck” – His username
“Gender”, “male” - Sex
“Local”, “en_US” - The language in which Facebook displays. No more special then use tricks like this to find out what language your friend uses Facebook.

This information can be displayed for every user on Facebook. If the user has not set the user name, use the profile ID.

Example: = http://facebook.com/profile.php?=123456 ——> 

http://graph.facebook.com/123456

The same trick applies to pages, useful as in the previous case if we find the ID of the page quickly.

Create Photo Collage/Grid-View Of Your Facebook Friends

Here’s a small little trick in Facebook that allows you to create a grid view or photo collage out of your friends list. This is how I do it:

How To Place Facebook Chat On Firefox Sidebar

Facebook Chat is cool, at least it allows you to send instant messages to online Facebook contacts. However I’m not really a fan of the chat bar being at the bottom of the page, what if I’ve left Facebook but still wants to remain chatting with my Facebook contacts? If you are using Firefox, you can place the Facebook Chat at the sidebar.

Step 1

Look for Bookmarks on the top navigation. Select Organize Bookmarks…

Step 2

Click New Bookmark... tab and enter the following:

• Name: Facebook Chat
• Location: http://www.facebook.com/presence/popout.php
• Check Load this bookmark in sidebar.

Step 3

Launch the Firefox sidebar, click Facebook Chat and start chatting with your Facebook contacts within Firefox.

HOW TO CHECK IF YOUR FACEBOOK PROFILE IS INFECTED WITH VIRUSES

HOW TO BLOCK ACCESS TO FACEBOOK

Today we show you some ways to quickly block access to facebook.com – because sometimes you need to block distractions in times of study,  work or home. With these services you decide which sites to block and how long of a duration of the block.

BLOCK ACCESS WITH SOFTWARE
One of the most common methods to prevent access to social networking sites or other sources of distraction are to use programs that are installed and run in the background. On the internet you will find many options, some freeware others paid.

We suggest: Block it for me , a free utility that allows only takes a few steps to block access to various Internet sites including Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, LinkedIn, WordPress.com and many others. Just run the program and choose which services to monitor, store and activate.

Other similar software is called The Web Blocker , it is free but also more customizable. And ‘in fact it’s possible to choose a password to enter to remove the block.

Obviously software is easy to start, easy to terminate a process to circumvent the block. Just close it or uninstall the program to unlocked and access facebook.

BLOCKED BY CHANGING THE “HOSTS” FILE IN WINDOWS:
A block is much more effective by modifying the Windows hosts file, which regulates access to files and various web servers. Entering facebook.com as an exception makes it so the site will not be able to be visited from any browser or application on that PC.

Follow instructions: the “hosts” file is on the path: “C: \ Windows \ System32 \ drivers \ etc”. Open it by right clicking and selecting “open with” – Notepad.

If you’re on Windows Vista/7/8 you must also open the file with administrator permissions, required for the modification of system files. If it is necessary for you to open the first Notepad with administrative privileges (right button – run as administrator), and thereafter from Notepad, open the “hosts” file.



The text you should add is the following line of text:

127.0.0.1 facebook.com www.facebook.com
Save and close the file. Now try to visit the Facebook site, if you have done everything correctly will be impossible.

To restore access to the site you will have to redo the process erasing the line previously added to the file “hosts”.

This is a very effective method for blocking access to websites. Unless the user is an expert in which it will be hard to circumvent the block.

BLOCK ROUTER ACCESS (UPSTREAM)
Many of the routers on the market allow the configuration of a list of websites to be excluded from access.

This filter can be configured from the settings of your router usually accessible at http://192.168.1.1 . Each modem has different settings for this reason we can not provide instructions.

This block is really effective because it runs uphill. All computers connected to the internet through that router will be unable to visit the site (s) you have listed.

BLOCK ACCESS THROUGH FIREWALLS
Similar to the previous method this is usually used in the workplace by system administrators. Web sites or domains in the filter set the firewall can not be visited.

These blocks are sometimes overcome by using a proxy , but if the latter is also blocked by the firewall, then you need to find alternative routes. (Such as a VPN , for more info do a Google search )..
